If your work is stressful, it’s not your work. ~ Marty Rubin
What’s got you in the vice? For many of us, professional demands can become a source of stress. Some of that stress is good – it motivates, focuses, and fuels us to get the work done. Continual stress, on the other hand, is not healthy. That non-stop tension chips away at our spirit and turns once-fulfilling work into drudgery.
Perform an autopsy on your job description, taking it apart piece by piece to determine which areas are causing the most stress. How can supports be added? Identify components of the work that are strengths – the parts that still pique interest and motivation. Have an honest conversation with those in charge about your need for change. You deserve to do the work you love! It is possible to create that for yourself, and it requires paying attention to your body.
Listening to our bodies is key because they never lie. If stress is a common everyday occurrence, then it’s time to ask yourself what you’d rather be doing. Something has to change. Use your voice, leap, and start moving toward the work you love.
Make it a strong day!
