Made You Look!

“There is a value in taking a stand whether or not anybody may be noticing it and whether or not it is a risky thing to do.” ~ Teresa Heinz

Plaid always makes me look. When I see someone wearing or carrying a plaid item, my attention is drawn immediately to the pattern. Interestingly, I don’t own anything plaid. It’s risky.

It shouts at the same time as it quiets. “Look at me!” and “Don’t look at me.” Plaid school uniforms lessen the need for individuality and create a sense of uniformity that levels the playing field. A plaid jacket, on the other hand, cries out to meet the day with all sorts of possibilities.

Sometimes I feel plaid. I bet others do, too. “Notice me!” “Don’t notice me!” Will you see through the uniform and notice the plaid beneath someone’s persona today? Find the brilliance, the color, the ideas, and the circuitry that make them unique. Perhaps you’ll notice something about yourself as well.

Make it a strong day!
