“Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress: Working hard for something we love is called passion.” ~ Simon Sinek
When we begin to tell people that we’re too busy to do something enjoyable, we need to pause and take a look at what we’re busy “doing.” When we are feeling overworked, it might be that we don’t have a job description or clear boundaries for our role or maybe we work to avoid other aspects of our lives (people, situations, conversations, etc).
What are we doing that is burying us unnecessarily? What can we get rid of in our day to day responsibilities that is taking too much time and energy? How can we rethink, rewrite, refresh or simply redefine what it is we do for the company? For ourselves? For others? We continue to pile more on our plates without remembering what we’re already eating. Then we double-book ourselves; and, before we know it we are buried in the chaos.
Get a grip on what you are doing. Pause before agreeing to do one more thing. Let go of something that no longer fills a need, serves you, or makes you happy. Take a deep breath and embrace that openness. Avoid filling it with something new. What we love will find us once the space is available. Trust that.
Make it a strong day!
