We don’t see things the way they are; we see things the way WE are!
The longer we live, the more we experience. Information, people, music, literature, ideas, programs, movements, fashion, politics – our world is full of wonderment.
In these experiences, we may find ourselves becoming annoyed with one thing or another. We lose patience, get offended, angry, hurt – annoyed! When this happens, instead of badmouthing the annoyance, pay attention to what’s going on inside. What’s setting us off? It’s not about the thing. It’s about us.
Time to ask good questions:
– What buttons is this situation pushing? (anger, fear, jealousy, sadness, etc)
– How am I different today?
– Where am I focusing my energy?
– Do I see, hear, or recognize anything I dislike about myself in this experience?
If we are tempted to tell someone else how annoyed we are, then we are searching for a way out – another person to agree with us so we don’t have to focus our energy on what’s going on within. If you don’t have anything nice to say, keep your mouth shut…and think about what’s really getting your goat.
Make it a strong day!
