Mapping It Out

Mapping out our life validates our direction; the key is keeping the map updated. How often do we fall back into old patterns, responding to stressors in the exact same way? Two big reasons – we are human and muscle memory is the strongest memory. Our body shifts into gear and takes over.

We can question those behaviors. We can update our maps. How? Reading and educating ourselves about new options and strategies to help us break the patterns; talking with a therapist to learn about the behaviors that are no longer supporting our efforts; and practicing new routes when faced with a road block. What if we stayed put instead of stomping out of the room?

This takes courage. We are strong and have survived many difficult circumstances in our lives. Updating our maps? Yes! We can do that! It may be the best way to find our amazing selves!
