“I cannot say this too strongly: Do not compare yourselves to others. Be true to who you are, and continue to learn with all your might.” ~ Daisaku Ikeda
This holiday season, we are inundated with cooking, decorating, and party-planning ideas. We are shown hundreds of pictures that illustrate perfection, but do not be fooled! This is not normal! No television program is going to show us the real “behind the scenes” action; no family delivers a plate of cookies and tells you the story about how they actually made it to your door; and no hostess is going to share the tears and frustrations that she endured to prepare for your visit. We are human. We learn from our mistakes and screw-ups!
The important thing is that the TV host shared the information within the 3-minute segment; the family delivered the holiday goodies; and fun was had by all at the party. In the moment, we can enjoy. Make sure you are spending your moments finding the message, the lesson, or the gift instead of wondering why you aren’t more like your friend, or wishing that you had something “they” have; or thinking of what you lack. Comparing ourselves to others can become like a full-time job (much work and way less fulfilling)!
This week, make your life experiences mean more by really looking at the experience instead of the person responsible for bringing it to you. When you start to compare, instead be grateful. That is a quick-fix for being true to yourself and learning from the wonderful world around you!
Make it a strong day!
