“I never made one of my discoveries through the process of rational thinking” ~ Albert Einstein
As a child, I watched my mom talk on the phone and doodle her way through the conversation. Important notes would be written down quickly, sometimes in shorthand, so she could go back to creatively drawing as she listened intently. It was a way to maintain auditory focus and allow access to the creative brain for conversation. I was always amazed at what she was able to fit on the back of a mailing envelope. As parents, I play “Finish the Doodle” with my children. The creative tradition lives on.
How much time do we spend with a pen in our hand these days? So much of our brain power is held captive in our computers, our phones and our minds. Those ideas deserve to be visible, and when we put pen to paper they appear! Consider keeping a stack of scratch paper nearby and grab one when hopping on the phone for a teleconference or on the way to a face to face meeting. You may find that doodling is the key to your creativity and idea production!
Make it a strong day!
