Open Door Fallacy

“Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.” ~ Maya Angelou

An opportunity arose for a get away – perfectly timed with two very chaotic experiences: the election and daylight savings time. While another country may not be an option for most, a day away from the demands and urgency of our phones, computers, companies, meetings, bills, appointments, and ick can create a powerful shift in our mindset.

This unreasonable, unspoken behavior of Open Door Access to our lives is not okay. Not only is it not okay, it’s UNHEALTHY! People know that they can find us one way or another. We are all carrying around external GPS units. The interesting phenomena after unplugging for a week was the complete and utter sense of peace, including the absence of a longing for information. I didn’t miss being tuned into every last thing going on in the world. There will always be things going on in the world. Our brains don’t need all of it at once.

This week, I encourage you to unplug, unwind, and CLOSE your door. Keep the information out so you can think. Keep the noise out so you can hear. Keep the negativity out so you can heal. Find out what’s going on with YOU for a change.

Make it a strong day!
